Wrong Advice On “Good Morning America” on Olive Oil

Just now, GMA did a segment on the best foods to live a long, healthy life.

In the report, they say that you should eat 2-3 tablespoons a day of olive oil. That’s 360 calories from oil. It’s insane.

Dr. Oz, Oprah’s guy, says one teaspoon a day is fine. I totally agree. PLEASE but back on olive oil as it is 100% fat and 120 calories a tablespoon.

  1. Alternatively there is the option of the extremely low-fat cooking sprays that you can buy. There is only 1 calorie per spray.

  2. But be careful as it really isn’t just one calorie. Most cans of spray are actually around 500 calories for the total can, so it can add up to more than you think.

BUT, I use it all the time. I’m just careful to just give it one fast shot.

  3. Do you think there are health benefits to olive oil that make it worth getting the 1 tsp.-(1 tbsp. tops) per day, if you can work it into your 1200 calories and otherwise low fat diet?

  4. Yes, I do, but truly, one teaspoon is enough.
