Sundays

Many people I know WAY overeat on Sundays. Instead, workout, get some rest, plan for the week, do a little shopping and cook what will set you up for a successful eating week.

Without planning, most of us are doomed. It only takes a few minutes to make a HUGE difference.

  1. Great reminder Jim! You always make being fit and eating healthy sound so simple. And that’s the way it should be! :)

  2. OK Jim, now you have me curious. Just why do you WAY overeat on Sundays? If you are getting enough calories and nutrition in your diet, hunger shouldn’t be an issue, right? So, is it some kind of emotional response or tantrum to an otherwise disciplined diet and lifestyle?
I know that sometimes, after weeks of successfully limiting my sugar/junk intake, I find myself missing the “drama,” the highs and lows of eating what’s not good for me, as if life is too boring without it. It’s as if I need to binge or eat a bunch of crap to remind myself how bad it feels — yet there is something satisfying and seemingly necessary about it. Why does it seem so challenging to be consistently satisfied with being disciplined and feeling good?

  3. Laurie: Thanks for the comment.

Sara: I find the vast majority of people overeat on Sundays because:

    1. They are around the house much more.
    2. They don’t exercise.
    3. They are out of their routine
    4. Watching a lot of TV
    5. Socializing

I personally don’t overeat on Sundays. I really try to keep my calories in check since I don’t want to workout more and also don’t want to deprive myself the next day because I need to knock more calories off my usual diet.

I just like the way I look and feel and don’t want to sabotage that.

    Does that make sense?

  4. Sorry Jim, I read your post wrong and thought you said that “people know I way overeat on Sundays.” I though it was strange of you to say that, LOL! Sorry, but thanks for the extra commentary. Makes total sense. I just read in one of your books that you used to drink a lot of diet pop. It’s not an issue for me, but I have heard that it’s best to avoid those containing caramel coloring (which is most of them, even non-colas), and to look for one sweetened with sucralose rather than aspartame, if you want to drink them. Do you have an opinion about diet sodas?

  5. Here is what I tell people about artificial sweeteners, because that is really the issue.

Eat Equal on Monday, Splenda on Tuesday, Sweet and Low on Wednesday, Stevia on Thursday, sugar on Friday, etc. Don’t overeat one of there as there is NO research about their long term use.
