Mail Order Cupcakes in The Wall Street Journal
Let me be perfectly clear as a father of 2:
NO ONE needs to be eating a cupcake after the age of 7.
They are just a big blob of sugar, fat and calories.
It amazes me that a new cupcake store opened in downtown Chicago and it’s packed all the time.
And we wonder why Chicago is the #2 Fat City in the country.
Please stop making silly mistakes like eating foods such as cupcakes. If you want something sweet, eat a Hershey’s kiss or a few cinnamon candies and call it a day.
Jim

Did you find out a way for us to ask questions separate from a topic? I don’t really want to put this under cupcakes, but oh well. You mentioned in your new book the benefits of taking cold showers. And I was wondering, if you wash up with a warm shower, but then top things off with a cold rinse, do you still get the same benefit? I tried it that way today and think I could do that on a regular basis.

Yes. That’s exactly what I do.
I start nice and warm and then once I am all washed up, I turn it down as cold as I can and i feel great after.

How can I subscribe to your blog. I would like to be notified whenever you post something new. A lot of blogs I follow have a way to subscribe so that you know when something new has been posted. Thanks! (Obviously, I LOVE your blog!)

I don’t know. I know you CAN do it, and it works for me, but I don’t know how to make it work for someone else.
Let me check with my IT guy and get back to you.

Jim, I’ve been following your program very strictly for the past three weeks. I’m very excited about the results (15 pounds!) I eat 1200 calories and have been working out (weights only of course!) at least 5 days a week. I also am nursing (I checked with my doctor and she said since it is almost time to wean my baby, I can cut calories and just take note of my milk supply and increase calories if needed). Anyways, I am just wondering if I need to take it slower as I definitely do not want to put all this work into getting a better body only to have a bunch of lose/flabby skin. What do you think? I want to lose the weight as soon as possible, but not at the expense of flabby skin! I have over 50 pounds to lose, so maybe that is why it is coming off so quickly–my very overweight body must require a LOT of calories! Plus, the nursing obviously helps. Do you have any adivce? I love how you are so “reachable” and always answer questions! Thank you so much,
Maralee

Maralee:
A few questions:
1. How old are you? The younger you are, the better the skin will come back.
2. By strength training, you are building muscle under the skin which will make it appear more toned.
3. It all depends on your high weight. If you gained a lot of weight, with the pregnancy, but then quickly got it off, you will be in better shape.
Please keep me posted and stay right with what you are doing.

Jim, I’m 29 years old and gained 25 pounds with my pregnancy. I lost 15, but now, 9 months later, am back up to the +25! I also started the pregnancy overweight from my previous pregnancy! Very discouraging as I know what I need to do, but struggle with actually doing it. I do alot of emotional eating, but am working to overcome that. My goal is to be 130 (I’m 5′5″) by my 30th birthday in November. I have a long way to go, but I believe I can do it.
So glad you think I can continue with what I’m doing; I’m sure the weight loss will slow down, but right now 5 pounds a week is very motivating! Thanks for all your help!

You know it will slow WAY down from 5 pounds a week, so don’t be surprised. You are doing very well and i love your November goal. Just stick with it and don’t get discouraged and by all means, get some sleep, as that is essential to this plan.

Jim, I just read something on a local news website that you should “appreciate.” Des Moines, Iowa is holding its annual BACON FEST, featuring 1000 lbs of bacon, including a bacon chocolate chip cookie! The event is already SOLD OUT! What the h*!! is the world coming to? That is disgusting!!! No wonder people are becoming morbidly obese!

Elizabeth:
I find it just disgusting and what really bothers me is that people would be offended by me saying that. The emphasis on food in this country to way out of proportion and that is why we are in the trouble we are in when it comes to our health.
