Totally agree. Next time someone says that, you should ask them why they think it is mean to raise a healthy child? The "mean" parents are the ones who are destroying their children's heath with all the junk.

I don't think it's mean at all to take care of your child's health.

I was trying to come to the conclusion of why so many parents load their kids up on junk. When we go to a local sporting event, people that we know try to throw suckers and soda at our child and we always tell them, "No thank you. She doesn't eat that stuff." Its amazing how many people think we are being "MEAN" to our child. So I was having a discussion about this with a friend who feeds his child the same way I do and he said he believes people are trying to bribe their kids, thinking that their child will like them better if they just give them the junk food. Also we agreed that many parents feel that it is just easier to give them the junk than to hear them complain. But if they'd have never started, the kid has would have no idea in the first place. Our daughter has no idea what she's missing and that's okay by us!! When people tell me I'm mean, I say, "You bet I'm a 'mean' mom. But my child will thank me for it later!!!!"

AMEN! I have a two year old who has never had a candy bar or pop in her life! We give her banana/apple/grapefruit or yogurt for a snack. In fact, she is so accustomed to them that when I asked her if she wanted an apple with her supper the other night, she said, "No that's only a snack food, not a supper food!" :)
