  1. Hi Jim- saw you on the View- nice job! That Dr. Aziz before you must have been on caffeine overload – butter, fat, no heart disease, fix cancer- her really went on and on and left you no time.
Seems to be a growing group of people stressing fat (even Jorge’s segment) and cutting out sugar. Butter, coconut, cream, full fat dairy…. this is really confusing me. I am on a statin and wonder – can I trust these guys and Aziz being a physician… what are your thoughts? Is any of this changing your philososphy or not?
Happy Holidays to you to and thanks for keeping up the blog and your work.
    Best-
    Greg

  2. I’m going to reply to you in the actual blog since everyone is hitting me up with these questions.

  3. (1) Where is the “actual blog?”
    (2) Where does Jim actually answer the question above, from Greg? I too am confused about this whole full fat and hormone thing and would like to hear Jim’s explanation. Surely we can’t go hog wild with quantity, but good type/quality fat provides lots of flavor and is very satisfying for the appetite.
    (3) As a 54yo female, I am seriously considering the Karas program to finally (and really) get in shape, but I’m gun-shy about the low-fat thing. I believe I can wean myself off sugar, but not the decent fats, too. And what about the whole omega supplement thing?
    Thank you!

P.S. I saw you for the first time on The View this week

  4. Here are the answers to your questions.

    1. You find the blog on the home page at http://www.jimkaras.com on the top right hand corner.

    2. I am not a big fan of full fat products and don’t agree with the doctor before me about full fats and hormones. How, to be clear, I like 1% and 2% yogurt, cottage cheese and milk. I don’t like fat-free products. I also believe that 30% of your daily calories should come from the right fats.

    3. I pretty much answered question 3 in question 2. I want you to eat the right fats. That is critical to your success.

And just to make this clear, I do not like a lot olive oil on food. Even Dr. Oz says one TEASPOON is all that you need. Most people coat their food in olive oil and it adds TONS of calories that will get in the way of weight loss.

    Hope this clears things up.

  5. Thanks for the reply. I am OK with minimal oil if it is good quality, so perhaps it’s best to mention quantity when talking about fats. Another reason I posted is that I was reading your earlier three books this week, and it didn’t seem like there was much fat in those menus, and that you were suggesting the use of the diet margarines, which I’ve tried in the past and do not care for. I have not yet read Energy Surge book.

I did find the actual blog, which is how I found these posts, however, I am not sure exactly where you answered Greg’s question “on the actual blog.” Is there a title for the post? Greg said we are hearing a lot about including full fat items in our diets, and that they manage our hormones better than low-fat items, and that this is confusing, especially coming from doctors. He asked if we could trust that advice and whether it was changing your philosophy about diet.

    Thank you!

  6. I really have not heard conclusive evidence that full fat items regulate hormones. Plus, American’s are not capable of eating many items in a portion controlled manner. They overeat, so that is why I like to keep the foods as low in calories as possible.

And full fat dairy is loaded in saturated fat, which we know is not healthy.

    Hope that clears things up.
