Another “Deadly” Marathon
Yep, it happened again.
A 35-year-0ld firefighter from North Carolina died just 500 yards from the finish line. He was running for a charity that helps burn victims.
WHY, WHY, WHY do we allow these marathons to go on. People get seriously injured just training for them. Half the people running them are injured as you can see all the tape and knee braces from the punishing activity.
Then, someone dies. Look, this guy was a firefighter. Odds are, he was in decent shape, but the stress and abuse of the 26.2 mile run killed him.
Marathons Kill. Please help me put a stop to them!!!

I wish more drs. would speak up about it too. I posted a link a couple weeks ago about a man that was running a half marathon that died. In that article it stated, “Health experts believe the heart can suffer short-term damage during a lengthy run” but rarely does this type of comment get printed or even spoken.
It seems like more and more people are running longer races. I am often made to feel inferior because I don’t run and enter races. For some reason some think they are more fit because they run. I don’t get it!

I read a story where a woman gave birth after running this marathon! I cannot imagine what a strain that could have been on her baby. You may have to cut and paste this link to see the story… just sounds insane to me: http://www.wkrn.com/story/15659736/woman-gives-birth-after-running-chicago-marathon

Jim … did you submit an editorial letter/commentary about this to the newspapers where the marathons take place? Did it get published? You really need to get this message out to the runners, the sponsors and the public!
