A New Week, A New Month

February is the PERFECT time to get a jump on losing weight.

We all know the horrible statistic that most people fall off their “New Year’s Resolution” within the first few weeks.

So, this is the chance to really make it happen in 2010.

First thing you have to do - agree to ONLY eat on salad plates for one week.

The research is so compelling that the smaller the plate/glass, the smaller the portion.

So do it. I am.

  1. Hi Jim,
    On a slightly different topic, I am going to Prague for the weekend tomorrow. I have been SO good on my eating and exercise plan that I am alittle nervous about gaining weight while I am there. I am only going for 2 nights and 3 days so I guess I just need to be careful when I am eating out. I always struggle to make good food choices in restaurants for some reason!
    I often try to balance out one big-ish meal by eating less throughout the day so that the calorie intake evens out. Is that the sensible thing to do (if there is little or no healthy food on the menu)?

  2. This is tough as is seems you have already decided to overeat at a meal that may set you back. I would instead try your best to eat the right food as much as possible and, as in most European restaurants, take a moment to look at the menu before going in if you are just strolling around trying to find a good restaurant.

    Or, you could have the menu of a place that has been chosen faxed to you in advance.

    Just walk, walk, walk while you are there (but remember, it doesn’t take the place of your strength training) and drink tons of water and make sure to sleep.

  3. Thanks Jim, I just had a ‘light-bulb’ moment! Your first sentence is really interesting because I hadn’t realised that I had already decided to overeat (probably because I did it subconsciously). I will make a renewed effort to eat consciously and not use a trip as an excuse to over-indulge. It’s just that I have a sweet tooth so I love deserts…inwhich case I will refrain or have a spoonful (no more) of someone elses. The interesting thing is that a spoonful is more than enough, but we have been conditioned to believe that we MUST finish the entire plate!
