The “Fit Vs. Fat” Argument on “The View”

 •  0 Comments  •  Uncategorized

The girls are debating if you can be fit and overweight.

Almost every bit of research says NO! Sure, you may not have:

High Blood Pressure

High Cholesterol or

High Blood Sugar…..YET!

But odds are you will as you get older.

Look at morbidly obese Paula Deen. She was able to abuse her body for years, but now her luck has run out and, as I keep saying, Paula is over 65 so you and I are paying for her medication via medicare AND she is making money as a spokesperson for a diabetes drug. That’s the only reason she came clean with the disease.

Honestly, if you are overweight, and I mean more than 20 pounds, then your risk of disease, including certain cancers, is up. That’s the fact.

If you are overweight but do exercise, I say good for you. Just know that weight loss still needs to be your ultimate goal for ultimate, long-term health.

The Calories In Vs. Calories Out Argument

January 26, 2012  •  1 Comment  •  Uncategorized

The argument continues on some of my review that people say I am wrong when I say your body weight is the function of the equation “Calories In Minus Calories Out.”

Please believe me, it is.

Now, as I wrote for hundreds of pages in my new book, sure, the quality of those calories also matters, but bottom line, you can GAIN weight if you eat too much of all the right foods, fruits, vegetables, lean protein and whole grain carbs.

Why can you gain weight? Because you are taking in TOO MANY CALORIES, even of great, low cal healthy food.

My new joke:

Jim – “How’s your eating?”

Client – “Oh, I’m eating healthy and only organic”

Jim – “Really, give me an idea of what you ate yesterday?”

Client – “Eggs and fruit for breakfast, a salad with grilled chicken and balsamic vinegar for lunch, poached salmon and broccoli for dinner and then an entire, Organic, rhubarb pie, and it was from Whole Foods.”

Do you get my point????

Great Review of “The Petite Advantage Diet” That I Wanted To Share

January 24, 2012  •  0 Comments  •  Uncategorized

I had seen Jim Karas on TV before Christmas and liked what I heard him saying. Most “normal size” people have no idea how much more difficult it is for us little people to keep our figures, especially after age 40. At 4 ft. 11 in. tall and a middle aged mother of 6, I needed some hope. I’ve been slim most of my life, but over the last 10 years or so my body has been changing and I didn’t like what I saw in the mirror. The weight had been creeping up and I fouond myself 30 pounds overweight.

I pre-ordered the book from Amazon and recieved it by the end of December. I didn’t start the diet until January 10, and in the past two weeks I have lost 7 pounds! I have not been hungry for one minute of that time. As a matter of fact, it is very difficult for me to eat as much as he wants me to. The recipes are easy, delicious, and incredibly filling. This is not like those fad diets where you eat the same dull, boring food every day. It’s no wonder people never stick to things like that. This diet doesn’t seem like a diet at all. There is no deprivation here. It is very flavorful and tastes more like good restaurant food. I have not even started the exercise program yet as I have an injury which won’t allow it, but I’m sure that when I am able to add that to my regimen, I will shape up that much more.

I highly recommend this book. It is a quick easy read, very straight forward. A good portion of the book is dedicated to the actual recipes and meal plans. He tells you exactly what to eat at every meal every day. There is no guess work here. If you can read and are willing to take the small amount of time necessary to prepare each meal as directed, the results will follow. I am confident that I will reach my goal and get back my youthful figure in a relatively short time with this program.
Thank you Jim Karas, from a very happy petite!

A Direct Quote From Paula Dean

January 19, 2012  •  4 Comments  •  Uncategorized

This, clearly, is a statement from a VERY uneducated woman when it comes to what she is putting into her body. Truly shocking and a quote from “People” magazine:

“I gave up sweet tea. It was not easy for a Southern girl,” Deen, who revealed Tuesday that she’s known she was a diabetic for three years, tells PEOPLE. “I would start drinking my sweet tea at lunch, and I would drink it up ’til I went to bed. It was staggering how much sugar I consumed in empty calories just from drinking my tea.”

More Paula Dean Bullsh*&t

January 18, 2012  •  1 Comment  •  Uncategorized

Can you BELIEVE she has known for 2 years that she is type II diabetic, but continued to push her high fat, high cal, early death producing foods to the public AND says that she will NOT modify her behavior given the disease.

As I blogged earlier, she is now a spokesperson for a diabetic drug, so I assume she wants to show that the drug alone, NOT coupled with diet and exercise, will help her manage this disease.

EVERY bit of research indicates that is NOT the correct way to manage diabetes. Diet and exercise is first, medication is second.

Guess Paula just “wants her cake AND her money too.”

Terrible example of how our society reward deplorable behavior. She should be banned from television advertising just the way cigarettes were banned.

Paula Dean Is ALL about the $$$

January 17, 2012  •  0 Comments  •  Uncategorized

Come on, Paula Dean just confirmed her type II diabetes ALONG with announcing an endorsement deal with a drug maker to help manage diabetes.

Notice, she didn’t confirm with integrity. She ONLY confirmed when she could make money from it at the same time.

I’ve been saying this for years. Only a FOOL would buy a cookbook from a woman who says “butter, butter and butter.” It’s killing people since obesity now kills more than smoking.

Please stop buying her magazines, books and other products and send the message “come on Paula, why not help people rather than hurt them!’

Yes, this pisses me off and, please remember, I’ve been railing on Paula for years and don’t think she’s cute, funny or helping anyone – that is, anyone except the drug company that will make billions of $$$ on drugs to help people with diabetes. If many of these people just watched their diet and exercised, they wouldn’t need the medication.

That is with the exception of people who must have the medication, in addition to the behavioral changes, to stay healthy. That I am totally cool with.

The Role Of Exercise Vs. The Role Of Diet For Weight Loss

January 15, 2012  •  1 Comment  •  Uncategorized

As it is the new year, this issue comes up all the time:

How important is diet to weight loss?

How important is exercise to weight loss?

The answer – Weigh loss is 75% diet and 25% exercise.

By that, I mean that 75% of your energy must be devoted to planning and executing a weigh loss eating plan.

25% of your energy must be devoted to your exercise plan.

I bring this up as this is what I hear from people all the time when I ask, “how’s your program going this year so far?”

Many respond by saying one of the following:

1. I promised myself I would get in three exercise sessions a week.

2. I love this new Zumba class.

3. I’m walking everyday with my bff, Gayle, and have only missed one day so far this year.

Here is what I NEVER hear:

1. I’m keeping a food diary for the first time in my life.

2. I’m weighing myself everyday, knowing it’s going to generally be bad news.

3. I’m committed to losing this weight and am, for the first time, truly thinking before I put anything into my mouth.

I rarely, if ever, hear people say, “I’m really trying to understand why I can’t stop eating sweets or can’t stop eating bread, etc.”

Everyone focuses on the exercise and pretty much ignores the diet.

But, remember this saying “You CAN’T out train a bad diet.”

I don’t care if you exercise 2 hours a day, 6 days a week. If you continue to make poor eating choices, or continue to be in denial that you are even making the choices, you will never lose the weight.

You must understand, you don’t really burn that many calories through exercise. Now, don’t get me wrong, the strength training is essential and necessary to maintain your muscle and your metabolism, but you could eat up the calories you burn in 30 seconds, maybe even less, by stuffing some calorie dense food – cookies, chips, candy, risotto, butter, croissant, juice, the list goes on and on – into your mouth. Some of these foods possess that many calories. Trust me.

So I’m going to challenge all of you, “are you truly looking at every calorie you put into your mouth? Are you writing it down? Are you aware of your eating episodes when you consume an enormous amount of calories in one sitting, one one standing?”

And are you looking at your emotional connection to food? What runs through your mind when I think “should I diet today?” Are you panicked? Are you depressed? Are you scared?

Please think about this as food, for many (not all), is a very powerful drug. My therapist friends tell me that, for some people, to take away their comfort foods would be like taking away their coping mechanism throughout the day. They don’t have the tools to do it without using the food for far more than satisfying hunger.

I want you to think about this and let me know your thoughts.

Why My Strength Training Program Works

January 13, 2012  •  2 Comments  •  Uncategorized

I have been getting a ton of emails from “The Petite Advantage Diet’ readers, asking me why I don’t recommend cardio.

Answer – You have to READ the book to understand that the exercise program has your heart rate RACING when performed according to my guidelines.

So, read the book, which is truly a fast read, and try the program and you will experience it yourself.
