Obese Child Taken From Mother Again

November 30, 2011  •  1 Comment  •  Uncategorized

Yes, an obese child should be taken from the mother, or family, and be treated in a specialized facility or with a foster family that understands how to deal with this issue.

I STRONGLY disliked the issue when it happened a while back and the child was found to have genetic reasons for her obesity. Trust me, genes or not, the child could lose weight. The question is what the family was willing to do.

Look, once again, most obese children are in a home with one or more obese parents. It is VERY rare that you find two parents of appropriate weight with an extremely obese child.

It just very, very rarely happens.

If you have one obese parent, your risk as a child is 50% that you will be obese. Two obese parents and that risk jumps to 80%.

Let’s take the parents and put them in foster care or in a facility to see if they CAN lose weight (which they will) and then educate them to help their child.

The problem is, a large majority of these very obese people are addicts. I’m not the one calling them that. The medical community now calls them that and like any addiction, it requires a plan and then they need to “work the plan.”

2 More Marathon Runners Die

November 21, 2011  •  3 Comments  •  Uncategorized

WHEN will people stop allowing these marathons to take place.

I think life insurance companies should charge a premium for those who participate in marathons as clearly their risk of death increases.

Two people died close to the finish line, just like another man in Chicago. What this tells us is that this punishing, 26.2 mile run is WAY too much for the body to endure.

It’s all stress, stress, stress, stress when you pound your body like that.

Please beg those around you that you love and care about to stop this insanity.

Shocking Facts About Teens And Obesity

November 17, 2011  •  0 Comments  •  Uncategorized

Take a look at this article that is ALL OVER THE PRESS today.

As adults, we need to model for our teens. We need to take our health and weight FAR more seriously because our behavior is not only effecting us – it’s going to kill our kids at a much earlier age.

Cross Fit Is Dangerous

November 14, 2011  •  0 Comments  •  Uncategorized

Read a very accurate article in “Men’s Health” about the danger of Cross Fit, which has become very popular.

People ask me, “How are your Cardio-Free classes different?

Easy to answer – Our Cardio-Free classes use what I call “Intelligent Intensity” and not crazy intensity.

I think of Cross Fit as the “Marathon” of strength training, and you must all know my opinion of marathons – they should be ABOLISHED!

The risk of injury is astronomical as you rapidly perform strength training and take your body to insane levels of intensity. Very, very few people should ever do that or even aspire to do that.

So, I would avoid the classes at all costs. The program also keeps doing the same exercises and that in itself will only lead to injury.

Childhood Obesity

November 13, 2011  •  0 Comments  •  Uncategorized

17% of American children are now obese, triple the level three decades ago.

AND, if you look at the pattern of adult obesity, that number will only continue to grow.

Do you realize that these children are destined to live with diabetes, heart disease and cancer, to name a few. I won’t even get into the knee, hip and back problems that will result in carrying around all that extra weight from such an early age.

PLEASE be sensitive to what is going on with children around you. Don’t feel the need to offer “treats” when it is clear that many of these kids are treating themselves around the clock.

What’s the best way to help reduce this devastating epidemic? Model. Show kids the right way to eat, exercise, sleep and make being “healthy” the goal.

Good luck,

Jim

Hugh Jackman’s Opening Night On Broadway

November 11, 2011  •  0 Comments  •  Uncategorized

While I usually stay with weight loss/fitness/energy/anti-aging, etc., I have to tell you all that Hugh Jackman was AMAZING last night at his opening night on Broadway.

There is NO other talent like him around. Everyone in the audience didn’t want it to end.

It in only a limited run until the middle of January. If you can get tickets, RUN don’t want to see him.

I was teasing him after the show as he has totally lost his butt. All the dancing has SHED his muscle and he is eating non-stop.

While he is in the show, one of my New York trainers, Don Scott, is training him five days a week as once it’s done, he does on to shoot the next installment of “Wolverine” and has to be pumped.

He builds muscle fast, under Don’s direction, which is good but we are uber careful to never injure him as that would be the kiss of death.

That is a point most people don’t consider. Hugh has been a client for over 7 years and has NEVER been injured and he has gone up and down 20 pounds from time to time.

He truly is a great guy.

Beliefs Lead to Behaviors Lead to Outcomes

November 9, 2011  •  0 Comments  •  Uncategorized

Just gave a speech about this in Philadelphia.

Here is an example of a person NOT losing weight:

Belief – I’m on a weight loss plan

Behavior – I’m following this plan

Outcome – NO weight loss.

The belief that this program is working (which it is not), is leading them to stick with the plan and so NO results.

Had the belief been “this is not working,” they would change their behavior and hopefully achieve a different outcome.

Do you know people LOVE diet and weight loss plans that produce NO results. I’m not kidding, they say “But I LOVE Sugarbusters” but then admit that they didn’t lose any weight.

What’s that about???

Want to Gulp Down Poison – Read On

November 8, 2011  •  0 Comments  •  Uncategorized

Today’s Wall Street Journal cover of the fourth section has article entitled “The Hidden Toll of Traffic Jams.”

It says”

“As roadways choke on traffic, researchers suspect that the tailpipe exhaust from cars and trucks – especially tiny carbon particles already implicated in heart disease, cancer and respiratory ailments – may also injure brain cells and synapses key to learning and memory.”

They go on to say “traffic fumes exact a measurable toll on mental capacity, intelligence and emotional stability.”

Can you IMAGE what running along congested areas, such as Lake Shore Drive in Chicago or Central Park in New York City, must do to the brain.

SHOCKING.

SO running will not only make you fat, it may also damage your brain!!!

Sorry For The Limited Posts

November 1, 2011  •  1 Comment  •  Uncategorized

Everyone:

Sorry that I haven’t posted as much as usual.

I’ve been on a new project in New York and it’s kept me uber busy.

I have been Tweeting a lot, and for those of you who like to follow Twitter, I’m JimKaras1. LOVE to know who the person is who got JimKaras without the 1!!!

In New York now. Staying in the West Village at a sublet for a few months. Will be in on and off.

It’s true. People in New York are, for the most part, thinner. They do walk everywhere and remember, I call walking “active rest.”

Rarely will anyone say “I’m power walking for exercise” in New York as they all do it all the time and think it’s part of life.

Please keep in mind, I’m not saying walking is the key to being lean. But, when you walk nonstop, it can only help IF you are also strength training.
