Health Magazine Cover – Walk Off Belly Fat – Results in 3 Days

September 23, 2011  •  6 Comments  •  Uncategorized

Are you serious?

I’m very disappointed to see Health splash a title like that on the cover. Walking does virtually NOTHING to your belly fat, let alone any fat on your entire body.

You should know that walking can improve your health. That I don’t deny. What I dispute is that walking does NOTHING to help you lose weight.

You would have to walk upon hours each day to actually burn enough calories to lose weight.

It should say “Strength Train To Blast Off Belly Fat” as that really DOES work!

The Sleep/Weight Dance

September 22, 2011  •  0 Comments  •  Uncategorized

If you are sleep deprived, then it’s all but impossible for you to lose weight.

Your hormones, leptin and ghrelin, are out of balance and that will cause you to eat more.

When in doubt, get to bed. Not only will you be leaner, but you will be UBER productive from all the restful, invigorating sleep.

Diet Soda ALSO Packs The Pounds

September 21, 2011  •  3 Comments  •  Uncategorized

I just blogged about avoiding liquid calories. But did you know that recent research from the University of Texas says that those who drink just 1 can of diet soda increase their risk of obesity by 41%!!!!!!!

I think it’s because artificial sweetener mimics the brains response to sugar, so you crave AND eat more.

Careful with it. I used to be addicted to it and have been “clean” for over 5 years.

Liquid Calories

 •  0 Comments  •  Uncategorized

I think this may be my tenth blog on this issue, but I just keep seeing people with coffee (milkshakes), juice (poison) and soda (come on, soda people???) in their hands all the time.

I recently went to a school event and was shocked to see the amount of soda that went down my fellow parent’s mouths.

These are pretty smart, successful people who know better. And do you really want to drink a Coke in front of your kids and then tell them no, they can’t have one?

We have a responsibility as parents. Please avoid the liquid calories, sports drinks, soda and juice. Just don’t buy them.

My kids get to order one Sprite, which they split on lots of ice, once every other week. They know that’s it and they accept it and drink water.

It’s really not that hard to “Just Say NO” to liquid calories.

Clients Who Took The Summer Off

September 14, 2011  •  1 Comment  •  Uncategorized

I have been dealing with a number of clients and friends who “took the summer off.”

Now, they are back and dealing with weight gain as high as 20 pounds, in just the summer.

Is that possible? Oh yes. If you stop strength training you will lose your muscle, especially if you are a woman anywhere around menopause.

Then, if you go on the “see it, eat it” diet, you can really put on the pounds.

BUT, you can get it off if you really hit your strength training, hard, and count those calories.

I did a segment on “Windy City Live” the other day on osteoporosis and even that research says LIFT HEAVY. If you can perform 15 reps, then you aren’t doing anything for your muscle OR your bone.

September 12, 2011  •  0 Comments  •  Uncategorized

On Saturday, October 1st, there is an amazing all day event at Northwestern Hospital.

It is a presentation/workshop off their new integrative medicine department. I’m really honored by the fact that I’m on the Advisory Board AND will be the keynote speaker during lunch.

It’s $35 a person for great information AND an amazing goody bag.

Grab a friend and come down for the day.

The Book on the 14-Year-Old Girl and Weight Loss

 •  1 Comment  •  Uncategorized

There was a LOT of controversy about the 14-year-old-girl book about weight loss.

I have to tell you, I have a 14-year-old daughter and she hears about weight and issues as such all the time…..and not from me!

I know not to talk about that with her, unless it’s about ‘healthy” foods and “the right foods to stay strong,” etc.

I don’t talk about it with regard to appearance.

BUT, a TON of people I know talk about their weight and their struggles with food/exercise in front of their kids.

Don’t kid (no pun intended) yourself about what your kids know. They see that the Disney kids aren’t overweight. They hear the teasing on the playground.

The fact that a book was written about a young girl who overcame her weight issues should be looked upon as inspirational, though I haven’t actually read the book, so I cannot comment on the content.

But just know, your kids know about obesity, overeating, lack of exercise, etc. They are smart. Treat them as if they are smart.

Reese Witherspoon Hit By Car While Running in LA

September 8, 2011  •  5 Comments  •  Uncategorized

Reports out that Reese was hit by an elderly driver while running.

Good news is that she is okay.

Bad news is that she was running in the first place.

I tweeted this recently, but Reese has suffered from what I refer to as “Newlywed Syndrome.”

What is that? Weight gain. You can see it in recent pic of her in a bathing suit on her honeymoon.

Reese is short, and would shed weight if she follows my new book. But until it comes out, I urge her to hit the weights and totally shun the classic cardio.

She also needs to be careful with her food as her new husband is a big, tall guy and she can only eat about half what he does, if not even less.

And she’s so cute. I see her all the time walking around Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills and seems like a lovely person. I would hate to see the weight start to creep up on the small sized body.
