Detox Day 1 – Dinner

June 21, 2010  •  0 Comments  •  Uncategorized

So, I drank my fig dinner and then just steamed some broccoli and peppers, as i am allowed as many steamed or raw veggies as i want. I really feel fine. Not hungry and I still have one more green shake for my snack.

For day 1, I’m doing just fine. HARD leg workout today, but the essential part of this detox is intense strength training. That’s how i will maintain my metabolism during this program.

 •  0 Comments  •  Uncategorized

Well, I just drank my first morning shake. It was chocolate. I’m off to workout (legs today) and then I get a green shake, that is packed with a special formula of vitamins.

This should be VERY interesting. I’ll keep you posted.

I Start My First “Jim Karas Metabolic Detox” on Monday

June 18, 2010  •  4 Comments  •  Uncategorized

My firm has been experimenting with a metabolic detox that I will be starting this Monday.

I will be drinking 4 shakes a day that are packed with nutrients, vitamins, fiber, the right oils/fats, whey protein, etc.

We had two client on the plan and one lost 6 pounds her first week and the other lost 10.75 pounds during the three week detox.

Here is how it works:

Week 1 – Shakes for all meals and one snack
Week 2 – Shakes for all meals but dinner
Week 3 – Shakes for just breakfast and snack
Week 4 – You are back to solid food

The other component to this plan is that you MUST strength train three times a week.

You see, most detox/cleanse programs rid your body of MUSCLE and therefore, your metabolism will slow, considerably.

This plan actually INCREASES your metabolism, and that is what makes it special.

I will keep you posted all week.

I’m both nervous and excited.

The State of the “Not So Small”

June 17, 2010  •  5 Comments  •  Uncategorized

I just gave a speech to a really great group of people, just a few blocks from my home.

What always amazes me is the people who come up with exercise questions, such as “How do i get rid of this?” as they point to their large stomach, and i say, “It’s all about your diet.”

They immediately say, “Oh, I have that under control and just need to work on my exercise.”

No, no, no.

It’s truly MUCH more about your diet than your exercise.

YES, you must strength train to maintain your muscle, but to lose weight, it’s 75% diet and 25% exercise.

I hope I am clear.

High Doses of Vitamin D Prevents Falls In People Over 65

 •  2 Comments  •  Uncategorized

For people over 65, high doses, as in 700 international units per day, reduces risk of falls between 19-26%.

Researchers ideally recommend between 700-1000 IU each day. The effects took place within 2-5 months.

Vitamin D also great for bone heath and possibly depression and cancer.

Green Tea DOES Boost Your Metabolism

June 14, 2010  •  10 Comments  •  Uncategorized

There has been some controversy over this lately, but green tea extract does spike metabolic rate by about 4%, or approximately 78 calories. While that may not sound like a lot, over time, that equals 8 pounds OFF a year, just from drinking tea.

Works for me. I’m drinking it right now.

Sauce On Food

June 9, 2010  •  10 Comments  •  Uncategorized

I watched a client last night eat dinner and make many, “calorically challenged,” mistakes:

1. Dressing on the salad. You know my opinion – NEVER
2. Butter on rolls – PLEASE
3. Skin AND sauce on chicken – No, No, No
4. Buttery potatoes – Do I even have to say anything
5. Ice cream for dessert

Please think before ordering. This person REALLY wants to lose weight, but this eating plan will result in weight GAIN.

HIgh Intensity Exercise, Like Marathons, CAUSES Heart Disease

June 7, 2010  •  2 Comments  •  Uncategorized

It’s like music to my ears as each day, MORE research ANTI-MARATHON comes out. Here is what was just reported in my trade Fitness magazine:

Researchers in Greece discovered that those that participate in marathons tended to experience stiffness in the large arteries.

The researchers measured blood pressure and pulse wave velocity – an indicator or arterial stiffness – in 49 men who regularly trained for marathons and 46 subjects who did not.

The scientists found that both measures were higher in the marathoners than the control group.

Therefore, PLEASE stop all the marathons. Like juice, they need to be stopped.
