1200 Calories IS The Magic Number For Most Women
I am reading “Woman’s Health” and a new writer says that 1200 calories a day stalled her metabolism.
Wrong, wrong, wrong.
For most women, 1200 is the KEY to weight loss.
What is equally important is how much protein. I find that women in general don’t eat as much protein as men, so they don’t feel full.
You can eat pasta, bread, rice, etc., all day and never feel full, put hit the grilled chicken, poached salmon, yogurt, cottage cheese and some nuts and you will be full all the time.
Just couple that with veggies and some fruit and the weight will fall off…..if you include the strength training.

Hi Jim,
I just want to say that i think you are absolutely right about eating 1200 calories for weightloss. I have found that I can lose weight eating 1200 cals and if i go over alittle it still comes off. I tried 1400 cals but I end up eating around 1600 and only maintain. I was 164 back in May and am now down to 154. I am combining cardio and weight-training though. My goal is 140. But I just have two questions:
1. It is really hard to stick to 1200 because on some days I dont feel asthough I’ve eaten enough. How do you overcome this? a bowl of cereal alone has 300 calories…!
2. What do I about going on holiday.? I’m going to Miami for 2 weeks in July and am worried that I may gain while I am there….
thanks, Davinda
P.S I have recently started eating chicken (after 15 years) because i found that I would constantly fall off the wagon when eating out because a) vegetarian food is cooked in high-fat oils and b) the only alternative is to eat salads which would lead me to feel unsatisfied and cause me to eat more later. This has definitely helped me to stay on track…It is a constant battle though…

Davinda:
Great points. Here are my thoughts:
1. You have to really up the protein to stay full. I know that I have to or I am famished. I was just at a 6-hour board meeting and all they had was fruit and veggies and I came home starving and immediately ate some grilled chicken.
2. I will be in Miami for one week. The food there is SO healthy. There is no problem eating fish and veggies. Honestly, LA, Aspen and Miami are some of the best places to travel to get the food that you want that is low in calories and tasty.
3. Yes, yes, yes, vegetarian cooking is mostly heavy carbs and tons of the wrong sauce. I urge people to avoid it and just eat organic protein when it is available.
Good luck and enjoy your trip…
